POSITION GOAL

To perform duties assigned him by the Manager II, Broadcast and Schools Engineer as pertain to the technical operation of the Instructional Television Center with occasional supervision.

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

The TV Broadcast Engineer I shall carry out the performance responsibilities listed below.  

• Perform assigned duties of the day-to-day operation of all the technical production and broadcast equipment at the ITV Center. The assignments vary according to need and may rotate through the various positions from time to time. The operational positions included in this category are:
  • Video Engineer: Responsible for the proper setup and level adjustments of all video signals originating in live studio cameras, film chains, videotape recorders, and station identification cameras; responsible for the routing of closed circuit preview programming to viewing rooms, offices, and closed circuit systems, responsible for set-up of satellite receivers and A/V routing systems for teleconferences and distance learning programming; also assigned minimal maintenance duties as required.
  • Video Tape Editor: Responsible for the operation of the videotape production and editing equipment, including the loading, cueing, rewinding, and reloading of the videotape machines for studio recordings and postproduction editing sessions; responsible for the operation of the film chains as required for studio productions and editing sessions; responsible for operation of professional, broadcast quality computerized electronic videotape editing systems; also responsible for operation of less sophisticated 3/4" and 1/2" playback and recording VTRs for "on-air" and dubbing operation, to cover lunch hours, vacations, and other absenteeism.
  • Night-time Engineer: Responsible for night-time technical operations of the ITV Center, including Master control on-air operations, teleconferences, video tape recording and dubbing.
• Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
• Participate in training programs offered to enhance the individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities.
• Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities.
• Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
• Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.
• A minimum of four (4) years of experience and/or training in the field related to the title of the position.
• Must be familiar with operation and minimal maintenance of broadcast television audio and video equipment and must be familiar with television broadcasting and production procedures.
• Computer skills as required for the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Educational preference to include post-secondary training in TV production or broadcast electronics. 
• Vocational education certificate of completion in TV Production Technology or Broadcast Electronics preferred.
• Preference for recent experience in the operation of professional, broadcast quality video tape recording and editing equipment, studio camera control units, TV satellite receiving systems, and video and audio routing systems.
• Bilingual skills.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
