General Summary of Duties: Assists the Endoscopy Center Registered Nurse Director to provide, plan, coordinate and manage endoscopy center. Assumes necessary responsibilities in the absence of the Endoscopy Center Nurse Director.
Supervision received: Report directly to the Endoscopy Center Registered Nurse Director.
Supervision Exercised: Daily work supervision of the Floor RNs, LPNs, CMAs, Orderly/Nursing Assistant, Medical Clerk; following the schedule set forth by the Endoscopy Center Nurse Director.
Typical Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye hand coordination. Requires standing and walking or other means of mobility for extended periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and working irregular hours.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to blood or other body fluids, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and other conditions common to an Ambulatory Surgery Center.
Example of Duties: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned)- Greets patients and prepares them for endoscopic procedures. Screens patients for appropriate information.
- Reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information.
- Records and reports patients’ condition and reaction to drugs and procedures to physician and CRNA as appropriate.
- Identifies patient care requirements by establishing personal rapport with patients and other persons in a position to understand care requirements.
- Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional and psychological support to patients, friends, and families.
- Assures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards, measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards, following the Center’s philosophies and standards of care set by state board of nursing, state nurse practice act, and other governing agency regulations.
- Resolves patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
- Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration, and controlled substance regulations.
- Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information; responding to requests; building rapport; participating in team problem-solving methods.
- Performs general nursing care to patients, administers prescribed medications in accordance to nursing standards while monitoring and maintaining consistent flow of patients through the endoscopy center.
- Demonstrates proficiency in all areas of the endoscopy center (assessment, procedure, recovery).

- Demonstrates understanding of fire and emergency procedures, participates in fire and disaster drills, demonstrates understanding of safety and security precautions, demonstrates understanding of hazardous materials plan and demonstrates proper use of equipment.
- Applies hand washing principles during daily work, complies with OSHA standards in the work place, and demonstrates understanding of cross-contamination.
- Records data as needed, promotes confidentiality of patient information, logs onto the system using own password, logs off the system when leaving work station, reports suspected violation of security/confidentiality issues.
- Demonstrates active listening techniques, gains support through effective relationships, treats others with dignity and respect, seeks feedback, sets clear standards for performance, establishes systems to measure effectiveness, efficiency and service and creates and maintains reporting mechanisms.
EDUCATION: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
EXPERIENCE: Registered nurse with management or supervisor experience preferred.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE: Current Louisiana State Nursing license
Current BLS and ACLS certification
