POSITION PURPOSE:   position is the roving watch for the St. Paul Plant, responsible for taking timely rounds on equipment and performing operational functions as needed for safe and reliable operations.  

PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Assists in the operation of high-pressure boilers and plant equipment to provide steam and compressed air to the customer in a safe and efficient manner.
• Inspects, operates and adjusts pumps, turbines and equipment associated with safe plant operations.
• Performs boiler and water treatment analyses, as necessary, to ensure efficient plant operations.  Makes adjustments as necessary.
• Performs major repairs and maintenance on boilers and auxiliary equipment to prevent shutdown and ensure proper operation in a safe and efficient manner.
• Cleans and performs minor building maintenance to enhance a safe work environment.
• Trains and instructs new Senior Operating Engineers to convey company policies and procedures.
• Performs other operating functions as needed to ensure uninterrupted operation of the plant.
• Performs other related functions as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Dependent on assignment, work schedule may involve rotating shifts (8 or 12 hours) to include some weekends and holidays and/or straight days. 
• Overtime can be either voluntary or mandatory.  Scheduled overtime is an element of the rotating shift assignment.

Qualifications

Education : High school graduate or equivalent.  Vo-tech training or equivalent as a boiler operator.

Experience : Three years of work in a large, high pressure steam heating plant or in high pressure boiler operation.

Licenses/Certifications : Second Class B MN Boiler engineer’s license; valid driver’s license.

Other : Must successfully complete pre-employment physical after a conditional job offer has been made.
