Position at Hood Lumber

Responsibilities:

• Operates boilers to generate steam that supplies heat or power for buildings or industrial processes.
• Starts wood hog to grind and feed wood into the boiler's furnace.
• Examines pressure, temperature, and draft meters on panel to verify specified operation of automatic combustion control systems, feed water regulators, and burners.
• Turns valves and adjusts controls to set specified fuel feed, draft openings, water level, and steam pressure of boiler.
• Monitors boiler and auxiliary units to detect malfunctions and makes repairs, such as changing burners and tightening pipes and fittings.
• May test and treat boiler feed water, using specified chemicals.
• May keep a log of meter and gauge readings and record data, such as water test results and quantity of fuel consumed.
• Operates front end loader.
• Handles equipment such as high-pressure boilers, steam boilers, and hot water heating systems.
• Keep work area clean.

Education and Experience:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Two-year technical degree, or equivalent work experience in an industrial manufacturing environment is preferred but not required. 

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to work in a hot and cold environment containing wood dust. 
• Able to lift objects up to 50 pounds

Additional Information:

• Have a good attendance record and able to comply with attendance policy.
• Must be able to pass mechanical assessment and boiler test if selected
• Mechanical background is a perk.
• Must be able to work on an 8 or 12 hour shift and be available for overtime.
• In a position to work a rotating shift schedule.
• Must be a self-directed worker, capable of working alone or in a team environment to solve problems and implement solutions.
• Must be able to effectively read, comprehend, interpret, record and apply information from documents (i.e. equipment manuals, SOP's, policies, etc.).
